Richard Šveda
Baritone

Slovak baritone Richard Šveda studied voice in Bratislava and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. He has received prizes at numerous international singing competitions. After completing a year in the opera studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, he joined the company’s permanent ensemble in the 2010/11 season.
His extensive repertoire includes Mozart roles such as Don Giovanni, Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), and Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), as well as Marcello and Schaunard (La Bohème), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Eugene Onegin, Albert (Werther), Lord Cecil (Maria Stuarda), Silvio (Pagliacci), Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Herr Fluth (The Merry Wives of Windsor), Don Quixote (Master Pedro’s Puppet Show), Lionel (The Maid of Orleans), Peter (Hänsel und Gretel), Frank/Fritz (Die tote Stadt), and Wagner roles including Gunther (Götterdämmerung), Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde), and Donner (Das Rheingold).
He has appeared as a guest artist at renowned opera houses such as the Vienna Volksoper, National Theatre Prague, Teatro Real Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Opéra Comique Paris, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, APO Auckland, Semperoper Dresden, Aalto-Musiktheater Essen, Dortmund Opera, Opéra de Montréal, Nuremberg State Theatre, and Zurich Opera.
In addition to his operatic work, Richard Šveda has appeared in concert and recital at prestigious venues including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Vienna Musikverein, and the Prinzregententheater in Munich.
