Darcy grew up in Launceston, Tasmania playing trumpet in community concert bands. Mark Bain and Yoram Levy of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra helped inspire Darcy's love of orchestral trumpet playing throughout high school and university.
He completed a Bachelor of Music at the University of Tasmania in Hobart in 2018 then continued his studies with Yoram Levy as well as David Elton of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne from 2019-2021. In 2018 he placed second in the International Trumpet Guild Solo Competition in San Antonio, USA.
Darcy then freelanced in Melbourne, playing casually with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria as well as back in his home state with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. He studied privately with Owen Morris of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as well as Joel Brennan from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music during this period.
2025 saw Darcy playing with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra in Perth on a contract as Associate Principal Trumpet.
Darcy's hobbies include exploring Auckland's beautiful running and cycling trails and enjoying specialty coffee.
