Leaving a legacy for a musical future

It’s the perfect time of the year to take time to consider, seek advice, create or update your will. Learn how legacy giving can strengthen the tenure of the Auckland Philharmonia for decades to come.

There are many ways to support the Auckland Philharmonia – such as regular giving, becoming a Chair Donor or supporting our arts education programme through the Future Fund – but one of the most impactful ways is to give a planned gift to the Auckland Philharmonia Foundation, as a gift in your will.

The Foundation is a not-for-profit charity in its own right, established in 1987 to support the activities of the Auckland Philharmonia. It is funded exclusively through planned giving and the subsequent investment of these donations. With the premise of “a little from many makes a huge difference,” the bequeathed gifts cumulatively make a huge difference, impacting what is possible for the orchestra. The Foundation is dedicated to managing and investing this money wisely, and with this growing endowment, it regularly supports specific needs including scholarships for players and the delivery of large-scale musical works.

A planned gift can be any gift that you intend to give the Foundation at a later time and would like them to know about now. Examples of planned gifts include leaving shares or personal property to the Foundation, leaving a monetary gift in your will, making the Foundation the beneficiary when winding up a trust or private foundation, or pledging a multiple year gift.

By leaving the Foundation a gift in your will, you can help build the Auckland Philharmonia’s future without impacting your life now. Your legacy will ensure that others are touched by music as you have been, and that Aucklanders continue to enjoy the benefits of orchestral music for years to come. Gifts of all sizes are impactful; there is no gift too small. You can also ensure that the value of your gift is not reduced by inflation over time by leaving a gift as a percentage rather than a fixed amount. Your gift will be managed with care and expertise.

If you do intend to leave a gift in a will, please let us know. At the Auckland Philharmonia, we celebrate those who choose to leave a legacy gift to the orchestra in their wills as members of our 21st Century Circle.
