Leaving a Gift in your Will

Each year more than 350,000 people have experienced the Auckland Philharmonia live. The orchestra reaches across cultures and communities, enabling everyone to experience the power of music to change lives. This can happen through the pleasure of hearing great symphonic works, the sense of accomplishment experienced by a young person learning an instrument or the events that bring music into a community.

By leaving the Auckland Philharmonia Foundation a gift in your will, you can invest in the future of the Auckland Philharmonia. Your legacy will ensure that future generations of Aucklanders will have the opportunity to continue to enjoy locally produced and accessible orchestral music

The Auckland Philharmonia Foundation’s investments regularly supports specific needs of the orchestra. This includes scholarships for players, securing of rehearsal spaces and orchestral development.

As an Aucklander for the whole of my life, I really love this beautiful city and, for me, having a superb orchestra is an essential part of what makes Auckland a wonderful place to live. The growth and development of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra has been, for many years, and still remains one of my passions. Having remembered the orchestra in my will, I can be confident that I am supporting its future

We are hugely grateful to anyone who considers leaving us a gift in their will, no matter how big or small. Our legacy charter outlines our promises to anyone considering supporting us in this way.

Thank you to all of the supporters who recognise the Auckland Philharmonia with a gift in their will.

Leaving a gift in your will - FAQs

Absolutely. We believe that the only way anyone should find out about the contents of your will during your lifetime is if you choose to tell them, and we will never ask you to tell us your wishes.

Of course, if you do want to let us know that you have remembered the Auckland Philharmonia in your will, we will welcome the opportunity to thank you. We may also be able to discuss whether you’d like your gift to go to a particular use and we will try to fulfill such wishes wherever possible. You can let us know how often you want to hear from us, and whether you’d prefer we write or call.

We believe in the importance of family and we understand that your loved ones come first. That’s why we would always encourage anyone considering leaving a gift to take care of those close to them first.

A planned gift can be any gift that you intend to give the Foundation at a later time, but would like them to know about now. Some of those things may be:

  • Leave shares or personal property to the Foundation
  • Leave a gift in your will
  • Name the Foundation as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy
  • Make the Foundation the beneficiary when you are winding up a trust or private foundation
  • Pledge a multiple year gift

We’re profoundly grateful to anyone who chooses to help us with a gift in their will, no matter how big or small. And, when you consider that it costs just $800 for one school to be an Auckland Philharmonia partnership school receiving music mentoring, teaching and access to our full education programme and concerts realise that even a small gift could be enough to transform many children’s lives. You can also ensure that the value of your gift is not reduced by inflation over time, by leaving a gift as a percentage rather than a fixed amount.

The Auckland Philharmonia strives to use every gift in a way which will have the greatest impact. Your gift will be invested in an endowment fund which will be used to secure the long term future of the orchestra. It will:

  • help the orchestra grow its number of players
  • secure a new home with improved rehearsal space, practice rooms and administration office space
  • increase the size of our education, community and outreach programme
  • help with player development
  • take orchestra music to larger part of greater Auckland and into more communities
  • provide opportunities to tour internationally

We understand that your situation could change in the future and of course, you can always change the contents of your will at any time and for any reason, regardless of any gifts you had originally decided to leave.

Thank you very much for your generous support. If you have decided to leave a gift to the Auckland Philharmonia, the words you will need to add to your will are: “I leave ____________ to the Auckland Philharmonia Foundation, 301-303 Queen Street, Level 1, Auckland 1010, Certification of Incorporation as a charitable trust No. CC23607”
