Sir Andrew Davis

Conductor

We were sad to hear that Sir Andrew Davis passed away on 20 April at the age of 80. The musicians and staff of Auckland Philharmonia are very disappointed that we will not have the opportunity to make music with this titan of the classical music world.

There will obviously be changes to the concert on Thursday 7 November, so please bear with us while we work through this. We will communicate directly with ticket-holders once we have updated information.

One of today’s most recognized and acclaimed conductors, Sir Andrew Davis’s career spans more than 50 years during which he has been the musical and artistic leader at several of the world’s most distinguished institutions including Lyric Opera of Chicago, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Sir Andrew has conducted virtually all of the world’s major orchestras, opera companies, and festivals.

Sir Andrew’s wide-ranging repertoire encompasses the Baroque to contemporary and spans the symphonic, operatic, and choral worlds, and his artistry is documented in a vast and award-winning discography.

Sir Andrew has been awarded Commander of the British Empire and a Knight Bachelor in the 1999 New Year Honours List.
