Pierre Bleuse

Music Director of the prestigious Ensemble Intercontemporain and Odense Symphony Orchestra, the latter a position he has held since 2021, Pierre Bleuse also serves as Artistic Director of the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades.
The 2026/27 season sees Pierre Bleuse continue his longstanding relationships with a number of orchestras with which he has established particularly close artistic ties. He opens the season with a return to the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, joined by Hayato Sumino as soloist, and returns to Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Kammerorchester Basel and Les Siècles, whose season he opens at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. He makes his debut with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, conducting performances in Turin and at La Scala in Milan of György Kurtág’s second opera, Die Stechardin. Further debuts include Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, while he also takes to the podium of Dutch National Opera for the world premiere of Red Fox, by composer Du Yun and stage director Barrie Kosky.
He is a regular guest with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, SWR Symphonieorchester, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, Auckland Philharmonia, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre National de Lyon, Bern Symphony Orchestra, Basel Symphony Orchestra and Brussels Philharmonic, among many others.
A key figure in contemporary music, Bleuse’s tenure as Music Director of Ensemble Intercontemporain has been extended through 2030. In 2025, he launched the Pierre Boulez centenary celebrations at the Philharmonie de Paris with a landmark performance of Répons, and conducted Hamlet-Fantôme at the Théâtre du Châtelet and Tokyo Spring Festival. The following year, he took the ensemble to the prestigious BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall and to Festival Ravel in Saint-Jean-de-Luz. In 2024, he conducted Hèctor Parra’s opera Orgia at Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu.
He works regularly with leading international soloists including Joyce DiDonato, Karita Mattila, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Sol Gabetta, Bertrand Chamayou, Emmanuel Pahud, and Renaud and Gautier Capuçon.
His discography includes numerous recordings, notably a highly acclaimed Ligeti album with Ensemble Intercontemporain, which received the Diapason d’Or de l’année in 2025.
Pierre Bleuse studied conducting with Jorma Panula in Finland and Laurent Gay at the Haute École de Musique in Geneva.
