Katherine Walshe
Violin
Katherine Walshe began the violin at the age of eight and studied Violin Performance and English Literature at Canterbury University. After travelling overseas she returned to become a founding member of the Auckland Regional Orchestra later to be called the Auckland Philharmonia.
Over the years Katherine has relished the diversity of the work with the Auckland Philharmonia – one week playing huge symphonic repertoire and the next backing Burt Bacharach and George Benson. Playing behind each of The Three Tenors was also a highlight for her along with getting to know a lot of operas and ballets.
Although Katherine works in the classical sphere she also loves jazz and contemporary music and enjoyed playing some jazz violin in earlier years.
In her leisure time, Katherine enjoys movies, reading, vintage shopping and travelling overseas to catch up with her two daughters.
