John Han
Violin
John Han was born in Korea and began studying violin at 7. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at University of Auckland in 2016 studying violin performance under the tutelage of Stephen Larsen. He then completed his Master’s degree at Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of So-Ock Kim and Philippe Honore with distinction in 2019.
John became a member of Southbank Sinfonia in London, one of the most internationally acclaimed orchestra academies, as well as playing alongside Academy of St Martin in the Fields and Royal Opera House. As an experienced orchestral musician, he has performed in many of the UK’s most prestigious concert halls under the baton of such world-class conductors as Edward Gardner and Mark Wigglesworth. After his mandatory military service in Korea, he has worked in professional orchestras in Korea and New Zealand such as Ditto Orchestra, Hankyung Arte Philharmonic Orchestra and Auckland Philharmonia.
As a keen chamber musician, John has founded many chamber ensembles, getting invitations from the Anghiari Festival in Italy and France. He was also invited to play as a guest violinist as part of the Royal Opera House Jette Parker Young Artist’s recital in London.
He joins the Auckland Philharmonia as tutti violin from the 2025 season.
