Ingrid Martin
New Zealand Assistant Conductor-in-Residence
Conductor
Australian conductor Ingrid Martin’s mission is to make classical music relevant, interesting and engaging for everyone.
She envisions a sustainable future for our art form, where orchestras are psychologically safe workplaces that respond to the unique needs of their communities through music.
A fervent supporter of new, local and underrepresented voices, she has commissioned 15 large ensemble works and given over 30 Australian premieres.
Ingrid’s work is shaped by her unusual background: she trained and practiced as an Emergency doctor, taught high school music, and has 20 years experience conducting community musicians aged 6-96.
Since making her professional debut in August 2022 she has received multiple repeat engagements with every orchestra she has worked with (MSO, TSO, QSO). She is a member of the Australian Conducting Academy 2023-2024.
