Shiyeon Sung

Principal Guest Conductor

As the first female conductor out of Korea to make the leap to the podium of internationally renowned orchestras, Shiyeon Sung is a real trailblazer.

When she was appointed assistant conductor at the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 2007, she already had a great reputation: she had just won the Solti and Mahler Competitions. During her three-year tenure in Boston, she began a close collaboration with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2009 - 2013, she was their associate conductor. From 2014-2017, she was chief conductor of the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra.

Born in Busan, she studied in Berlin and Stockholm.
