Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Ben immigrated to Australia where he began his musical life age eleven. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is a graduate of the Australian National Academy of Music. He is currently completing a Master of Music in Research degree from the University of Melbourne.
Ben has performed with several prominent ensembles including Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, Orchestra Victoria, the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He formerly held the position of co-principal trombone with the newly founded Suzhou Symphony Orchestra.
Prior to his coming to Auckland, Ben passed his time teaching trombone at the University of Melbourne and getting together with friends and colleagues to read through trombone trios and quartets. When a trombone is not found in his hands, he can be found hiking, exploring local coffee shops or tinkering with his latest electronics project.
