The Friends are delighted to host two outstanding virtuoso pianists for our July MTA.
Performing for us will be David Li. David is a third-year student at the University of Auckland where he is pursuing a dual major in Classical Piano Performance and Information Systems. David has studied piano under the tutelage of Stephen De Pledge and Rae de Lisle. He has won many competitions and scholarships including being awarded the 2024 Haydn Staples & Auckland Philharmonia Piano Scholarship at the University of Auckland.
David has a wide range of performance and pedagogical experience and has been working with WE Music School and Maestro Music School since 2020, serving as a private piano tutor, theory tutor, and accompanist. He is also a passionate chamber pianist and collaborative pianist, with his piano-percussion quartet winning first prize at the 2023 University of Auckland Chamber Competition. He is excited to share his music with the Friends for the first time!
In conversation with Jackie Wilkinson, will be Sylvia Jiang. Sylvia has had a hugely successful global music career. She is a Juilliard graduate and holds an Artist Diploma from the Peabody Institute. Her performances have been featured on BBC News, ABC Australia, and RNZ Concert, amongst others, and she has won numerous prizes at prestigious competitions including the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition.
Sylvia Jiang will be the soloist for The New Zealand Herald Premier Series: Scheherazade.
