The Friends have proudly supported the Auckland Philharmonia since 1981. We are all music enthusiasts and would love you to join us!
Our first official meeting was held in 1982 in the Auckland Domain Band Rotunda. A range of responsibilities was taken up by the newly formed committee to assist Orchestra Manager, Michael Maxwell. These included Public Relations, catering, hospitality, ticket sales and fund raising. This latter included raffling a house in 1984, selling 35,000 tickets to raise a profit of over $80,000.
Today the very professional Auckland Philharmonia staff administer and promote the orchestra, but as a Friend you can still assist in many ways, such as handing out programmes and welcoming orchestra patrons to concerts, providing musician suppers, staffing the information table as well as organising fundraising activities to maintain our Silver donor status.
Buses
The Friends coordinate the special concert buses from Auckland’s suburbs to the Town Hall – a simple, cost-effective and convenient service for our concertgoers.

Meet the Artist
As part of our fundraising, the Auckland Philharmonia Friends host monthly Meet the Artist events on Friday mornings at the Ellerslie Leicester Hall. A light lunch is included. Entry for Friends is only $15.00.
MTAs provide an opportunity to hear from a range of people involved in the music industry together with live music from Auckland Philharmonia players or Aspiring Musicians.
The Friends work closely with the Learn and Participate team to support the Aspiring Musicians Programme. It is an absolute pleasure to support these young musicians at the beginning of their careers.
Membership
A Friends membership is only $50 per year and gives you the chance to get closer to the orchestra, as well as access to a dedicated supper area during the interval of main series concerts.
