Salina Fisher and Jerome Kavanagh Poutama - Papatūānuku

The “glowing centrepiece of Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra's In the Elements concert”*, Salina Fisher and Jerome Kavanagh Poutama’s ‘Papatūānuku’ is today’s SOUNZ Film release, part of our comprehensive coverage of Aotearoa-New Zealand works performed by the APO in 2023.

The work, in Salina’s words, “honours Papatūānuku (earth mother) as the bearer of all life, and centres instruments/voices that are closely connected to the natural world. It also honours the interconnectedness between wāhine (women) and whenua (land, placenta), recognising te whare tangata (the house of humanity) as both the womb of a woman, and womb of the earth.” Be sure to read our interview with Salina and Jerome over at the SOUNZ blog:https://sounz.org.nz/articles/salina-....

Jerome and 19 of his taonga puoro join the Vincent Hardaker-led Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in the Auckland Town Hall for this very special performance.
