Ross Harris - Symphony No.7

We begin our comprehensive SOUNZ Films coverage of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s performances of works by the composers of Aotearoa New Zealand with a world premiere. Symphony No.7 was the latest in the celebrated partnership between composer Ross Harris and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. In the New Zealand Herald William Dart wrote,

“This is a restless, unpredictable score. The pastoral mood of its opening bars is soon subverted by intriguing smudges of dissonance and teasing whiplashes of percussion. Striking contrasts come in spikey dances and jaunty, sometimes sinister marches; after an uproarious climactic tutti, the symphony’s 24-minute life fades into wisps of solo strings.”

The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra is conducted by Giordano Bellincampi.
