Opera in Concert is a highlight of the Auckland Philharmonia season and is a performance of a full opera in concert form – no set, no costumes, but maintaining interactions between characters to retain the dramatic effect. The aim is to make opera more accessible as they can be a very expensive undertaking when elaborate sets and costumes are involved.
These performances would not be possible without the support of the Opera in Concert Consortium, a group of likeminded individuals that want to support the art form. It is the largest artistic and most costly venture in the Auckland Philharmonia programme, being a collaborative artistic production encompassing multiple local and international artists, a chorus of singers from NZ Opera, and of course, a full orchestra.
Being an Opera in Concert Consortium supporter has many benefits including the opportunity to meet the artists, gain a better understanding and knowledge of the works undertaken, as well as grow new friendships within the Consortium.
We are so grateful to the consortium of donors who make it possible for audiences in Auckland to witness the splendour of opera semi-staged each year. If you are interested in more information about this year’s Opera in Concert performance you can find that here
