Top Australian pianist Daniel de Borah steps in for Le Guay

Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) regrets to announce French pianist Claire-Marie Le Guay has withdrawn from her performance due to unexpected personal circumstances. Ms Le Guay was scheduled to appear with the APO on Thursday 19 November.

The APO is pleased to announce that top Australian pianist Daniel de Borah has been secured as Ms Le Guay’s replacement in the New Zealand Herald Premier Series concert ‘Alpine Adventures’. The concert programme will remain as advertised, with Mr de Borah performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.2.

Since his prize-winning appearance at the 2004 Sydney International Piano Competition, Daniel de Borah has emerged as one of Australia’s finest musicians and has toured extensively throughout the United Kingdom and Australia. He has performed as a soloist in London with the English Chamber Orchestra, the London Mozart Players and with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Barbican and Cadogan Halls. He has also performed throughout Australia with the Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria.

Born in Melbourne in 1981, Mr de Borah studied at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, the St. Petersburg State Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Music, London. A recent Limelight Magazine review highlighted Mr de Borah’s skill in “achieving the ideal equilibrium of musical clarity and emotional restraint”, and delivering “a display of sophisticated musical artistry” [May 2015].

“This concert will be Eckehard Stier’s final concert as APO Music Director and we’re delighted Daniel is able to step in as a replacement at short notice,” says Barbara Glaser, Chief Executive of APO. “We’re looking forward to a memorable finale to our 2015 season; as the concert title suggests, it will be a wonderful musical adventure.”
