The Auckland Philharmonia has announced an artist change to its upcoming concert, Bayleys Great Classics: Bellincampi & Brahms, on Thursday 6 June 2024.
Acclaimed pianist, Alexander Melnikov, will make a welcome return to the Auckland Town Hall stage. He will step in as the replacement soloist to perform Brahms’ Piano Concerto No.1, one of the best-loved works of the piano repertoire. As part of his tour of the region, which includes the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Melnikov brings his trademark artistry to delight our Auckland audience.
The Bayleys Great Classics: Bellincampi & Brahms programme also includes Brahms’ Second Symphony, his most relaxed symphony that was written while he was on a summer holiday in the Austrian Alps.
Gale Mahood, Auckland Philharmonia’s Director of Artistic Planning, says, "What great fortune to have secured a pianist of this calibre to join us on this occasion. The Brahms symphonies have become something of an annual calling card for Giordano Bellincampi and the Auckland Philharmonia, resulting in many memorable and special performances.
“This will be the first time that Giordano has led us for a Brahms piano concerto, and we couldn't be more delighted to have such an esteemed and experienced interpreter of this music as our partner. I am really looking forward to this exciting combination of Bellincampi & Brahms (& Melnikov!)."
Alexander Melnikov replaces the previously advertised, Marie-Ange Nguci, who has withdrawn from the concert due to scheduling complications. The concert title and music programme are unchanged.
