APO pays tribute to arts patron Dame Catherine Tizard

The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra whanāu is deeply saddened to learn of the death of our beloved patron Dame Catherine Tizard.

Dame Catherine was a patron of the orchestra for almost 30 years, and an avid supporter and advocate for orchestral music, the arts and the APO in particular.

Her role in facilitating the building of the Aotea Centre is but one of her many legacies for the arts in Auckland.

Dame Catherine could be seen regularly as a member of the APO audience. She was never shy about expressing an opinion and will be remembed fondly by all of us as someone with intellingence, warmth and a sometimes outrageous sense of humour.

We extend our sympathy and condolences to her family.
