Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) today announced its comprehensive APO Connecting programme for 2018. APO Connecting is one of the leading music education and community outreach programmes in New Zealand, reaching more than 20,000 Aucklanders each year through a range of free and low-cost events, activities and performances.
“APO Connecting reaches out to communities with the knowledge that music opens minds,” says Thomas Hamill, Director of APO Connecting. “Getting out of the concert hall and into schools and neighbourhoods, and seeing the transformative power of music first-hand is incredibly fulfilling and inspiring for our musicians.”
Research has shown that music education benefits not only aspiring musicians, and can have significant positive impacts from improved cognitive behaviour and academic success, to building a sense of community through shared experiences amongst individuals.
