Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) is pleased to announce that conductor Johannes Fritzsch will join the orchestra to conduct its Great Classics: The Creation concert, performed in association with the World Symposium on Choral Music 2020, taking place on Sunday 19 July at Auckland Town Hall.
Maestro Fritzsch is an APO regular, previously conducting the orchestra in 2008, 2016 and 2017. Of his 2016 performance with the APO, Radio New Zealand described him as “attentive to detail” and “controlling, shaping the sounds”, with Bachtrack writing “Fritzsch’s sensitive conception was never academic, consistently shaped with true intensity and with vital attention given to rhythm”.
He is also joining the orchestra in September to conduct The New Zealand Herald Premier Series: Grace & Grandeur.
Maestro Fritzsch replaces the previously advertised Maestro Giordano Bellincampi. APO looks forward to welcoming Maestro Bellincampi when he returns to Auckland to conduct the orchestra’s first main series concerts of the 2020 season in February and the Beethoven 250 festival in March.
