Taran Plamondon
Acting Sub-principal
Horn
Born and raised in Edmonton, Canada, Taran Plamondon is thrilled to be joining the Auckland Philharmonia as Acting Sub-Principal Horn for much of the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Taran holds an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where he was the recipient of the Hazel Workman Kettley Scholarship, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Alberta. Alongside his pursuits as a horn player, he also runs Éditions Plamondon, a music preparation and publishing business that works with many of Canada’s most prominent orchestras and chamber ensembles.
As an active freelancer, he has appeared with Canadian orchestras from coast to coast, including the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and many more. He also held the position of 4th Horn in the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra from 2019-2022. During his three years in the National Youth Orchestra of Canada took him to stages across the country as well as in Portugal, Germany and Scotland. A lover of chamber music (woodwind quintet in particular), Taran has taken part in the NAC Orchestra Mentorship Program and the NAC Young Artists Program, NYO Chamberfest, and the Glenn Gould School New Music Ensemble.
Outside of music, he enjoys playing rhythm games like Guitar Hero and cycling increasingly ludicrous distances through the New Zealand countryside in search of the ultimate flat white.
