Oboist and English hornist Nicholas Tisherman was born in New York and received diplomas from the Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division and the New England Conservatory of Music.
Prior to his appointment as Principal Cor Anglais of the Auckland Philharmonia, Nicholas served as 2nd/Assistant Principal Oboe of the Colorado Symphony from 2017 to 2025, and has been a guest with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, and Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Nicholas has performed as soloist with New England Conservatory’s Bach Ensemble, Boulder Bach Festival, Breckenridge International Festival of the Arts, and, most memorably, with the Colorado Symphony in Bach’s Double Concerto BWV 1060 alongside mandolin virtuoso Avi Avital.
As an educator, Nicholas has served on faculty at the Round Top Music Festival in Texas, and has given master classes at universities throughout the U.S. He loves connecting with audiences in pre-concert lectures and is committed to fostering young musicians in his private studios.
Nicholas has appeared in the orchestras of the Grand Teton, Verbier, Brevard, and Tanglewood festivals, and represented the U.S. on the Orchestra of the Americas’ first-ever European tour around the countries of the Baltic Sea.
Nicholas joins his first cousin, Principal Clarinetist Jonathan Cohen, as the second member of his family to hold a position with the Auckland Philharmonia.
