Lucy was born in Chengdu, China and took up the violin at the age of six, later winning a couple of violin competitions. She finished her studies at the Middle School affiliated to the prestigious Shanghai Conservatory of Music with distinction in 1996, and then started to pursue her Bachelor’s degree.  After completing her degree, Lucy joined the Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra from 2000 until 2001 as the Acting Principal Second Violin. She also played with Macao Orchestra prior to coming to New Zealand at the beginning of 2004 and has been a permanent member of the first violin section with Auckland Philharmonia since the end of 2004. Lucy finished her Masters degree in November 2005 at the University Of Auckland School Of Music.

Besides music, she also enjoys traveling and trying various types of food in each country.
