Lachlan Radford

Chair Donor
Could this be you?

Lachlan Radford held the subprincipal double bass position with Orchestra Wellington from 2021-22 before moving to work with the Auckland Philharmonia for their 2023 season. Within his performance career he has worked with several world-class orchestras including the BBC Concert Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. From 2010 - 2018 he was based in London and was a member of the Berkeley Ensemble. He performs and records regularly in chamber ensemble and solo environments. Outside of the classical world Lachlan can be found working in other genres, most often with his trio More Like Trees who blend a fusion of flamenco and drum’n’bass on acoustic instruments. Their second album was released in 2020. He has also performed and recorded with award-winning artists such as Heritage Orchestra, DJ Yoda, Reeps One, Lazy Habits, and Tali.

Lachlan also enjoys his time in the field of music education. He taught as Professor of Double Bass at the Junior Guildhall School of Music & Drama and is the Co-chairperson of Wellington Music Education Trust and co-founder of Piccolo Bass project alongside Alanna Jones of the NZSO. Lachlan’s enthusiasm for passing on his musical experience to a younger generation is helped by his diverse and genre-defying background.

Lachlan plays on a Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy bass and uses the Kaplan Medium Tension Strings by D’Addario as a D’Addario Orchestral Artist.
