Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Katie Danforth is a versatile performer and educator. As an orchestral musician, Katie has performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Akron Symphony Orchestra, Opera in the Heights, and the New Texas Sinfonia. Additionally, she was a member of the prestigious Spoleto Festival Orchestra USA in 2022 and the National Academy Orchestra of Canada in 2020. This past summer, Katie performed with the Endless Mountain Music Festival in Corning, NY.
Prior to joining the Auckland Philharmonia, Katie led a large private studio and local masterclasses in the greater Houston area. A dedicated teacher, Katie is passionate about creating a comfortable and accessible environment for students to cultivate a love for music. Her students can consistently be found in the top ensembles and high school arts programs throughout Texas.
Katie recently graduated with her Master of Music in Oboe Performance from Rice University, where she studied with Robert Atherholt. Previously, she received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music where she studied with Robert Walters. In her free time, Katie can often be found cycling and running outdoors; she also loves to relax with a cup of coffee and a great book.
