David Garner

New Zealand cellist David Garner completed his Doctor of Musical Arts at Michigan State University in 2004.
Prior to this he studied for his undergraduate degree at Auckland University, followed by a master's degree at Canterbury University and a Performance Diploma at Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam.
David enjoyed success in competitions such as the Concerto Competition of Michigan State University (1st prize) and the Adam International Cello Competition (semifinalist). He was also a recipient of the highly competitive Woolf Fisher Trust Scholarship.
Following his studies, David worked with Orchestra Victoria in Melbourne and joined the Auckland Philharmonia in 2007. In addition to his orchestral work, David is active as a chamber musician, soloist and teacher.
