Music Teacher Training

Teaching goes hand in hand with being a musician for a lot of people and the Auckland Philharmonia is happy to support the next generation of music educators through two new teacher training workshops!

Ensemble Teacher Training

Teaching an ensemble is a unique skill usually acquired through practice rather than pedagogy, so we are excited to be extending our pedagogical output by introducing ensemble teacher training. Auckland Philharmonia musicians who have experience in leading larger ensembles (concert bands, chamber orchestras, etc.) and mentoring smaller ensembles will run workshops with students from the University of Auckland School of Music who are interested in extending their ensemble teacher skills.

Itinerant Teacher Training

We will also be introducing workshops for University of Auckland School of Music students wanting to learn how to be effective itinerant teachers. A lot of music students have experience as private teachers, but you need to develop a different set of skills for itinerant teaching as you frequently have less time with your students and often have to teach more than one student at a time. Experienced itinerant teachers from within the Auckland Philharmonia will share their tips and tricks for managing their time and their students in this capacity.

If you are interested in taking part in one of these workshops, please email
