Auckland Philharmonia Young Composer-in-Residence

Applications for 2025 are now closed  

This annual residency programme, a partnership between Auckland Philharmonia and the University of Auckland, supports New Zealand aspiring composers to launch their professional careers.

Throughout this year-long programme, the Young Composer-in-Residence composes chamber works and orchestral music to be performed at Auckland Philharmonia Learn & Participate concerts. Participants also receive mentoring from the Auckland Philharmonia's Communities Composer.


Why should I apply?

  • Compose three new works to be performed by Auckland Philharmonia musicians at various Learn & Participate events throughout the year.
  • Get paid for your compositions!
  • Gain experience in rehearsal settings working with professional musicians.
  • One-to-one mentorship from local composers.
  • Media opportunities to build your network in Tāmaki Makaurau.

  • University students
  • Advanced secondary school students
