Students from the University of Auckland School of Music are auditioned or interviewed to become orchestral or administrative interns with the Auckland Philharmonia! The work interns do with the Auckland Philharmonia directly links to a university paper and as such they receive university credits.
Orchestral Internships
The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestral Internships are awarded to two to three postgraduate-level musicians who are students at the University of Auckland School of Music. Successful interns will receive one-on-one mentoring from Auckland Philharmonia musicians before playing as part of the orchestra for Auckland Philharmonia's Learn and Participate concerts. The mentoring sessions will aim to develop their musicianship as well as technical ability. The concert experience is designed to develop ensemble skills and expose the intern to the workings of a professional orchestra.
Administrative Internships
One or two administrative interns may be selected per semester. Administrative interns are required to do roughly 72 hours over the course of their internships which works out as 6 hours a week. We fit these working hours into the intern’s university schedule, and they are only expected to carry out these hours during the semester.
These internships are administered by the Auckland Philharmonia's Learn & Participate team, but we offer the opportunity for interns to work in any of the following Auckland Philharmonia departments; Learn & Participate, Development, Operations, or Marketing.
