“The key outcomes for ma as kaiako is that even though I cannot play a musical instrument myself, I should not be afraid to use instruments in my everyday teaching with the tamariki. Hopefully I will now be able to instil a love for music for the children and use instruments to give sound effects for stories and dance with them to add to their creative communication” – teacher at Laingholm Kindergarten
In collaboration with Nurture People Charitable Trust, we partner with two Early Learning Centres each year to provide creative music sessions for tamariki (children) paired with professional development for kaiako (teachers).
The initiatives includes several sessions at the centre, introducing a variety of orchestral instruments and creative music making to explore how music can be incorporated in everyday activities at the centres.
The project also includes professional development workshops for the teachers to encourage and support more live music making in a mainly digital world.
