The Friends look forward to hosting the mastermind behind the Auckland Philharmonia's tertiary Learn & Participate Programmes. From Aspiring Musicians (whom the Friends love to hear at MTA’s) to professional Internships & Fellowships, Yoonseo Shin orchestrates the pathways that mould the artists of Auckland's future.
Yoonseo is a Taranaki-raised composer currently based in Tāmaki Makaurau. With a multi-instrumentalist background focusing particularly around piano, harp, and strings, Yoonseo has written numerous solo, chamber, and orchestral works since beginning her musical journey as a young child. With influences from Japanese composers and film scorers, her works explore capturing humanity and evoking emotions with the use of non-western harmonies.
Beyond her work at the Auckland Phil, the multitalented maestra is one-half of hyperpop group YOONIE X NĪKAU and is a featured musician, performing with local band Big Sur around the country. Her recent composition Amour et Mort was awarded a Highly Commended in the Young Composer Competition as a part of the NZ Music Month Play Our Preludes concerts.
Yoonseo will perform on the piano for us and chat with Jackie Wilkinson about her impressive musical journey to date.
