Meet the Artist - Shiyeon Sung

For our September MTA, the Friends will be treated to a performance by Auckland Philharmonia Principal Clarinet Jonathan Cohen, Associate Principal Oboe Camille Wells, and Cello Martin Roberts. They will perform gorgeous music by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Vaughan Williams.  

Following the music treats, Jackie Wilkinson will chat with Auckland Philharmonia's Principal Guest Conductor (since 2023), Shiyeon Sung.  

Shiyeon is a real trailblazer of her profession: she was the first South Korean female conductor to take the podium of internationally renowned orchestras.  

These include, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra and Konzerthaus Orchestra Berlin, as well as the National Symphony Orchestra Washington, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.  

Shiyeon will talk with us the morning after conducting the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto performance with the Auckland Philharmonia and soloist Chloe Chua.
