Amalia Hall joins us for the second MTA in August, this being her 1st appearance at a Friends MTA since she 1999! The Orchestra Wellington Concertmaster and NZTrio violinist is noted for her “blazing insight and dazzling virtuosity” by The Strand and will, as always, be interviewed by our own, Jackie Wilkinson.
Since making her solo debut at the age of 9 with the Auckland Philharmonia, Amalia has been a regular soloist with all the major orchestras in New Zealand. She performed the world premiere of violin concertos by Claire Cowan and Michael Norris with Orchestra Wellington, under the baton of Marc Taddei. Amalia currently plays on the c. 1700 Vincenzo Rugeri ‘Baron Knoop’ violin, generously on loan from a private benefactor.
Following the interview, we will be treated to a performance from John Han and Juli Kim, who are now part of the orchestra thanks to the Learn & Participate Fellowship Programme, bridging the gap between tertiary training and the professional orchestral environment by providing real-life experiences to rehearse and perform with the Auckland Philharmonia. John was an Orchestral Fellow in 2024, winning a full-time position in the Auckland Phil as a Tutti Violin in 2025. Juli joins us as the Orchestral Fellow for 2025, following her studies at the New England Conservatory of Music in the United States.
