Why Auckland?

Gabrielle Pho 5000x1000

Gabrielle Pho, Section Principal Horn

“The Auckland Philharmonia offers a rare balance of artistically satisfying music making and time to enjoy other facets of life. One week I might spend performing powerful horn lines in Bruckner’s Ninth, and another, I might find myself hiking along a scenic New Zealand coastline.”

Meet Begonia Chan (cello) and Jonathan Cohen (Principal Clarinet) as they talk about life working in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland as part of the Auckland Philharmonia.

Why Auckland Philharmonia?

Joella Pinto 5000x1000

Joella Pinto, Rotating Tutti Violin

“The orchestra has a real home and connection here with the people of Auckland, whether it’s our hugely popular main series concerts, or our exciting community outreach programmes. Living in Auckland also means getting to enjoy the many beautiful beaches on both coasts, walk in the Waitakere or up one of the many volcanic maunga, or finding a great new spot to eat in this sprawling city.”

Auckland Philharmonia is on a mission to open doors, and this is embodied in our solution-focused and positive approach to the workplace and our commitment to supporting growth through active listening in a judgement-free environment.

As with many orchestras around the world, we continue our work to ensure the Auckland Philharmonia is an equitable and inclusive workplace, and we take active steps to ensure the values and principles of EDI are embodied in our recruitment processes and workplace culture. (See our audition documents for more details).
